Dying Light

'This isn’t a movie. This isn’t pretend. This is real and we have to deal with it.'

Bridgerton’s CHARITHRA CHANDRAN starred alongside CHRIS DODSWORTH in Gold Thread Productions’ theatre run of Jason D. Martin’s play DYING LIGHT at the Oxford Playhouse’s Burton Taylor Studio.

Set in America, Tom and Jenny, two teenage terminal cancer patients, meet in a cancer ward. When Jenny falls pregnant, she is faced with her own Sophie’s choice - to continue treatment or to have her child.

Dying Light is a striking reminder of the strength of human nature and the potential for love, generosity of spirit and optimism, even in the face of intense pain. Martin brings a raw and intimate honesty to Jenny and Tom’s relationship as together they battle their illnesses. Despite the grave subject matter, Martin imbues the love story with light as the characters deal with their suffering through playful anecdotes and humor. This is a story of hope, celebrating the human ability to find light even in the darkest of times.

'A beautifully candid show, a refreshing mix of emotive subject matter and light-hearted narrative.' - Daily Info

'Dying Light is a beautiful production of a beautifully bittersweet play. Their chemistry was lovely throughout, and the slow unravelling of their love story was poignantly demonstrated throughout the minutiae of Marks’ direction; the audience was warmly invited into their intimacy. [...] This production is intimate, warm, and touching, and handled the huge topics it grappled with extreme sensitivity.' - Cherwell Magazine
